Collington Masonic Lodge # 230 QuestionsHow Do I Become a Mason?Masonry is always ready to receive the petitions of men who desire to become members. By longstanding tradition, our fraternity does not approach potential members about joining. Men interested in joining should ask any Mason and that is enough to begin the process. If you do not know any Masons, you may call or write Collington Lodge #230, A.F. & A.M., or the Grand Lodge of Maryland. What are the requirements for becoming a Mason?1. You must be a man of good character at least 18 years old. 2. You must acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being. We are open to men of any faith, but you cannot be an atheist. 3. You must petition a lodge for admittance. What Should I Expect from Masonry?A man's experience in Masonry, like much of the rest of life, is directly reflective of the time and energy he invests in it. Masonry offers fellowship with the members of a distinguished world-wide fraternity, opportunities for leadership, community service and rituals that communicate the most precious and valued secrets of existence. When you become a Mason, your feet will be set upon a path that can take you as far towards enlightenment as you may wish to go. One of those precious secrets is, "It is a far nobler mind that asks, 'What can I do for the world?', than asks what the world can do for me." What Does Masonry Stand For?The three tenets of Masonry are Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. We, as Masons strive to bring the light of these values to our daily lives. Brotherly Love teaches us that all men are equal, the inner qualities of a man are to be lauded and not the external and that tolerance is a virtue. Relief enjoins us to watch over the sick and distressed, widows and orphans, for that it our obligation. The pursuit of Truth leads us to examine ourselves and our world to ensure that we are not blinded by ignorance or mislead by falsehoods. There are many other things that Masonry stands for and that is one of the fraternity's most endearing qualities; even after belonging for a number of years, you will still learn new lessons from our message and the example of others.
